As a whole they were humanoid in appearance with either snow-white or silvery grey hair and their skin has a slight iridescence. But with the variance in humankind through out the Federation they would not stand out physically.
The Laren were technologically and genomic superior. They modified themselves and other races, sometimes without their permission, to 'improved' the race. As a race they were arrogant, but also strangely compassionate.
Which led them into conflict with the Cren. The Cren were militarily superior to the Laren who realized they would lose against such a superior military force. Thus the Laren went searching for another militant race. None were found during their own time so they went searching through the timelines.
They found humans. Who with some small modifications and dropped at the right place would decimate the Cren. So they set about 'recruiting' a group of humans and put their plan into action.
However by this time the Laren were almost decimated themselves. So when their plan succeeded enough to at least defeat the Cren to the point they would not be a problem for thousands of years, the surviving Laren withdrew into the shadows and allowed the other races to come into their own on their own. For their action did not change their own fate, just the fate of the others.
